We’ve created this sample charter itinerary for the BVIs so our guests get to explore the island’s natural beauty, hike the mountainous terrain and lush jungle, relax on the palm-fringed white sandy beaches, dive into mysterious shipwrecks, and marvel at the abundance of marine life. Yacht Loon also has a toy box full to the brim, ready for fun-filled days of watersports, and luckily, the wind conditions here are ideal for our favourite activity onboard: kitesurfing.
A seven-day Caribbean yacht charter here brings something different every day. With over 60 distinctive islands and only a handful inhabited, there are plenty of secret spots cruising the Sir Francis Drake channel that Loon’s Captain and crew will share with you. While all our itineraries are tailor-made to the client’s preferences, this gives you a feel for what this amazing archipelago can offer during this Caribbean season.
Day 1 – St Thomas
An ideal and comfortable starting point for a superyacht charter is starting at St Thomas, in the USVIs. The island’s airport has plenty of flight connections covering worldwide routes. It is then a short hop and comfortable private transfer to the scenic Charlotte Amalie Harbour, where you will board Yacht Loon, docked at the prestigious Yacht Haven Grand Marina.
After a warm and friendly welcome, Loon will make the short cruise to Magen’s Bay. Here, you can use the time to get acquainted with the yacht and enjoy all the sunbathing and lounging areas while anchored in this beautiful and sheltered bay – often labelled as one of the best beaches in the world. If you are up for some high-speed fun, we recommend jumping onto one of the jet skis in the afternoon.
For that special first evening, the crew will create the perfect atmosphere as you enjoy an expertly-curated, gourmet dinner from our chefs underneath a blanket of stars.
Day 2 – Jost Van Dyke
Waking up in the BVIs Motor Yacht Loon will be anchored off Jost Van Dyke, making up one of the four main islands alongside Tortola, Virgin Gorda, and Anegada. The smallest, but by no means the least impressive, you will enjoy a delicious breakfast before exploring what Jost Van Dyke offers. For a morning adventure, exploring on horseback is a great way to head out onto the island’s rugged terrain.
If you want to get under the crystal-clear water, Sandy Cay is a small island just off Jost Van Dyke teeming with marine life. A great spot to try out Loon’s snorkelling gear and spend some time with the tropical fish that hang out here.
Enjoy a fresh seafood lunch onboard for the afternoon, or we can take you to Foxys, one of the many famous beach bars in the BVIs, serving up a relaxed and laid-back Caribbean menu. You can take a short trail to the iconic Bubble Pool from here. Explore this natural rock formation that creates a Jacuzzi-like effect to soothe your adventurous morning’s leg muscles.
Continuing the bubbles back onboard Motor Yacht Loon, enjoy sundowners from the deck, and then, if the party mood is still calling, anchored in Great Harbour is the spot to be. Ashore, the iconic watering hole of Soggy Dollar serves up their original Painkiller cocktails into the early hours.
Day 3 – Norman Island
Enjoy a morning cruise, watching out for dolphins en route to Norman Island. This island was said to be the inspiration for the famous novel Treasure Island. The crew will find the best spot here, tying up to the rocks, for you to play out your own day treasure hunting in one of our favourite anchorages.
Under the water, there are more treasures; explore The Indians dive site with our top Scubapro diving gear with the guidance and expertise of our PADI-qualified dive master. With plenty of unique rock formations and jagged pinnacles rising from the seabed, you can navigate the underwater caves and swim-throughs amongst the spectacular corals. This island is also great for taking the paddleboards and heading to the famous caves with snorkel gear in tow.
For an evening cocktail, you can grab a rum punch at the unique floating Willy T’s bar in The Bight Anchorage. Our Captain can anchor in one of the secluded bays he knows well if a quieter evening is on the cards.
Day 4 – Virgin Gorda
This day calls for ticking off a must-see on any Caribbean charter travel bucket list – The Baths. This world-famous natural phenomenon is located at the heart of the Devils Bay National Park on the Southern tip of Virgin Gorda, the third-largest island.
A collection of crystal clear waters of natural rock pools, caves, and grottos, sheltered by massive granite boulders and white sandy beaches. Enjoy exploring this world heritage area, where the crew will also point out the hidden spots for you.
Anchored in Drake’s anchorage, there is an opportunity to go ashore for a sunset walk, admiring the orange and pink Caribbean hues from the romantic Honeymoon Beach. For a livelier evening, the crew can whisk you off to the Bitter End Yacht Club for a drink or dining ashore.
Day 5 – North Sound
Moving onto the northeastern area of the BVIs to the natural hurricane hole of North Sound. Here is where the wind conditions and calm waters come into their own, and it is a prime spot for some kitesurfing lessons with our Cabrinha Kites.
Aside from kitesurfing, charter guests can enjoy the extensive range of other toys we have onboard. If you want the kitesurfing adrenaline to continue to flow, the FunAir Extreme Yacht Slide will provide unlimited hours of fun. Or enjoy some more relaxing playtime in the afternoon on the FunAir Beach Club Sea Pool, or venture further and kayak the calm waters.
Yacht Loon can then cruise around to the private Necker Island, keeping your eyes peeled for Sir Richard Branson. Before relishing another dinner onboard, you can have drinks at Saba Rock, a small island with a hotel, restaurant and bar. Back aboard, dinner can be set up alfresco for you to enjoy on the swim platform.
Day 6 – Guana Cay
The Captain will let you into more of his BVIs secrets, and the crew will take you by tender to explore the best-deserted beaches around here. Guana Cay is full of acres of beaches, mountains, hiking trails, and even its own flock of flamingos.
It is the ideal location for Yacht Loon’s crew to set you up the perfect beach BBQ setup on one of the many beaches. Relax on loungers or enjoy the beach and water toys while the chefs prepare a beach BBQ feast to remember.
Day 7 – Peter Island
Plenty is still in store for your last full day as you cruise onto Peter Island. Begin your day with another indulgent breakfast, and if you fancy an early morning beach stroll, the tender can take you ashore to this private island resort.
The crew can lead another dive excursion here, a fun shallow dive to brush up on the skills learned over the week and a chance to spot a few more turtles. Take one last look into the toy box for some afternoon fun. Ashore, there is always an option for an afternoon hike.
Back onboard, relax into your last evening, and enjoy the onboard Jacuzzi with the crew’s signature sunset cocktails before another truly sumptuous dinner.
Final Day – St Thomas
Good things unfortunately come to an end, but before you depart, you can enjoy a final morning cruise back to St Thomas. Don’t forget to relax one last time on the sun loungers on one of the aft decks, soaking up Caribbean rays before departure.
